Vision Express, the leading high street optician, has expanded its store portfolio with the acquisition of the G C Bateman Group, a 100-year-old family owned business for an undisclosed sum.
With over 70 stores in the South of England, the acquisition of Batemans Opticians builds Vision Express' UK presence even further, taking its total number of stores to over 300, affirming its number two position in the optical market.
Providing a platform that will support Vision Express' business strategy to focus on growth and development of the brand, the move sends out a clear and ambitious message to the high street and optical market at large.
Both businesses have a comparable offer, placing specific emphasis on eye health and exceptional customer service, and it is one of the reasons Vision Express chose Batemans Opticians for acquisition.
Vision Express' Chief Executive Officer, Bryan Magrath said: "This is a major step in the growth of Vision express. It not only shows our strength and position within the market but also demonstrates our intent to invest in brands with the same vision and values in order to grow our business."
He adds: "In times where the retail market is in flux we are able to provide our customers with what they want - excellent eyecare, great service and a wider selection of product. Batemans Opticians is a well established business with a great offering and we'll be looking to extend and maximise these over the coming months."
