Making your glasses
Most Opticians send your glasses away to be manufactured, but at Vision Express we have a lab in almost all of our stores. This means for most prescriptions we can make your glasses within the hour.
Stage 1:
Lens design - 5 mins - exactly calculated by computer to fit your prescription
Stage 2:
Preparation - 4 mins - prepares your lenses for laboratory processing
Stage 3:
Generating - 5 mins - generates the first stage lens curve, thickness and finish
Stage 4:
Fining and polishing - 8 mins - perfects the lens curve, thickness and finish
Stage 5:
Verification - 5 mins - ensures the lens power, axis and centration precisely match your prescription
Stage 6:
Decentration - 2 mins - confirms the lens optical centre is correctly aligned with your pupil measurements
Stage 7:
Glazing - 13 mins - cuts edges and fits the lens to your frames
Stage 8:
Assembly - 4 mins - verifies the correct alignment of the lenses in your frame
Stage 9:
Final inspection - 6 mins - guarantees that your finished glasses meet stringent quality criteria
For more complex prescriptions (e.g. high prescription Varifocals) and where customers choose a high performance lens to match their vision and lifestyle needs - more specialist manufacturing is required than is available in-store. This means we have the lenses made in a central facility but still ensure a fast turn around, usually within 7 days.
With expert teams in every store and labs in almost all our stores it's easy for you to pop-in for a quick frame adjustment if required, a thorough clean of your glasses or for minor repairs.
